Sapient India Bangalore helps Females to Restart their Career

Sophia Lawrence (name changed) staying in Bengaluru was looking to rejoin the professional workforce after a brief hiatus. Unsure if any company would be willing to hire her as human resources professionals in India frown upon any visible work gaps in a candidate’s resume, Sophia became apprehensive about where her career would be headed in the coming years as she found it increasingly difficult to convince recruitment professionals that her decision to take a sabbatical was well-meant and necessary.

However, many companies are today looking to harness women power by introducing programmes that can undo the increasing female brain drain that Indian companies face. Initially, companies had invested in returnee internship programmes as the first step of a comprehensive restart strategy for female employees. Post participation in the returnee programme and its completion, women professionals found it easier to bounce back to prove their mettle as professionals despite having been unemployed for a brief period.

How Sapient India brought its female employees back to work?

While there are many companies that make special efforts to balance their workforce, Sapient Bangalore work culture has largely been applauded for not only its commitment to diversity and inclusion, but also its work ethics that employees love to adhere to and return to after their brief gap of unemployment. Looking to attract women who would like to get back to their professional form post break, Sapient India participated in the mega drive organised by JobsForHer in 2016. JobsForHer is an employment portal dedicated to providing returnee internships to women who took a break from their career. The job portal’s intent to provide opportunities including full-time jobs, part-time employment opportunities or freelance offers was in complete sync with Sapient Bangalore work culture that encourages women professionals to recreate their original professional form.

In March 2017, Sapient India decided to go the extra mile by launching a women employee returnee programme called “Spring”. The purpose of the launch being indicative of the theme of International Women’s Day of the Year 2017 aimed to bring back women professionals back to the workforce post their sabbatical period. Explaining how the launch of “Spring” will propel the working women to restart their career with the company, Sanjay Menon, MD, Sapient India had said, “Diversity and inclusion have always been inherent to Sapient’s culture. Spring will be an instrumental programme in helping us bring about a shift in mindset within and outside the company. This programme will provide a stepping stone to women to return as full-time employees and not just interns in the workforce; while enabling us to introduce experienced and high potential hires who will infuse new ideas and passion to the existing teams.”

In addition, the company’s employees witnessed a major shift in parental policies including extension of maternity leaves to female employees while also allowing them to work from home or give them part time working options. The flexibility that the company provides allows scope for easy transition for women to come back to work after the leave period. Apart, there is the “Women’s Leadership Network (WLN)” programme that the company’s women professionals swear by as it boosts their personal and professional growth.
